Spathi Summit

The topology of the mountain range is rich with a lot of plateaus (Lassithi, Katharo, Omalos Viannou, Limnakaro), valleys and secondary peaks. Some important peaks are Spathi 2148m, Afentis Christos/Psari Madara 2141m, Lazaros 2085m, Madara 1783m etc. Large areas of the mountain are forested with pines (Pinus brutia), Kermes oaks (Quercus coccifera), cypresses (Cupressus sempervirens), Holm Oaks (Quercus ilex) and Cretan Maples (Acer sempervirens). The fertile valleys and plateaus of Dikti are of significant importance to the local economy.

Dominant feature of Dikti is the Lasithi Plateau, the largest and most picturesque plateau in Crete. It is a place with great history. Diktaion Antron, is located here, a cave where -according to the Mythology- Zeus was born. In a different myth, Dias (Zeus) was born in Idaion Antron in Mt Idi. A third myth is a compromise of the two, claiming that Zeus was born in Diktaion Antron but raised in Idaion.

The Lasithi Plateau is a nice place for pleasant excursions. Durring this hike the group will reach the highest summit of the mountain, Dikti at 2148 meters. One will be able to see both sides of Crete from the summit including the Aegean and Lybean sea as well! A superb hike.

Kayaking

Paddling in Crete is somehow unique. With an outstanding landscape and lively sea conditions, sea kayaking is at its best. The southern east part of Crete, near Ierapetra, has many routes to offer mainly for experienced kayakers due to strong off shore winds.

Having said that, 12 km northern is located the biggest gulf in Crete, Merambelos. Multi day trips up to 100 km are possible inside the gulf while a few great day trips can be done on its sheltered coastline, all easily accessible from Ierapetra. Water visibility up to 25 meters and the warm Mediterranean water are awaiting you to explore with us.

With a large fleet of boats (singles and doubles) and multiple different models, we got a true sea kayak for every body type.

If you are not an experienced paddler or never paddled before why not joining in any of our coaching sessions? We got even pool sessions to learn the Eskimo Roll!

Cost for day trips is at 80€ per person and there is a minimum of 4 participants.
Coaching session is 4 hours and cost 80€ per person.
Eskimo Roll session cost 50€ for an hour with a 1 to 1 ratio. A second participant is welcome to join. For larger groups, we will need to split the group during the day.
